What You Should Know About Epoxy Flooring — Alt. Surfaces (2023)

Epoxy Flooring is a well known finish that's widely used in commercial and industrial projects. What is an epoxy floor?

Epoxy floor coatings are a resin based system that is applied over existing concrete floors to create a seamless, smooth surface. In most instances, epoxy flooring is a solid, flat colour. However you can also get creative with your epoxy flooring and creating patterns throughout.

The epoxy coating; also referred to as epoxy systems or epoxy paints is typically installed at a minimal thickness of 1mm and is available in a range of different colours. There are many brands of epoxy available on the market; it's important that you make sure you choose a high quality epoxy. At Alternative Surfaces we have three different epoxy flooring options, which we have listed out in detail below.

Finish 1: Epoxy Smooth Finish

This is a high performance, low VOC epoxy resin coating system that's designed to create a uniform "orange peel" surface texture. Typically used as a hard wearing, protective coloured floor coating in high traffic areas and industrial facilities.

If you're un-aware of the term "orange peel" , this is a finish that develops on painted and cast surfaces, where the texture resembles the surface of the skin of an orange, with a slightly bumpy texture.

The smooth epoxy finish achieves a P1 slip resistance rating.

Finish 2: Epoxy Light Non-Slip

The Light Non-Slip epoxy coating is high performance, low VOC, epoxy resin coating system that features a light non slip aggregate to create traction underfoot. Typically used as a hard wearing, protective, coloured floor coating in industrial facilities.

The Light Non-Slip finish achieves a P3 slip resistance rating.

Finish 3: Epoxy Non-Slip Finish

Like the other epoxy coatings, the Non-Slip finish is high performance, low VOC coloured epoxy coating system that's designed to create a textured surface in industrial factilities. Typically used as a hard wearing, protective, coloured floor coating in industrial facilities.

The Non-Slip finish achieves a P4 - P5 slip resistance rating.

How much do epoxy flooring systems cost?
